1.1. About fwLOGview
1.1.1. What is fwLOGview
fwLOGview is a graphical logviewer for firewalls.
1.1.2. What is it compatible with?
fwLOGview can be used in conjunction with the following firewalls: Linux netfilter/iptables, CISCO PIX, *BSD ipfilter and Fortigate.
The GUI needs a java runtime environment (at least 1.4) while the daemons require perl (with some CPAN modules) and probably a *nix OS.
Contributions from users may bring compatibility with other firewall software.
1.1.3. What is the License?
fwLOGview is licensed under the terms of the GPL (GNU Public License).
1.2.1. Who created fwLOGview?
The creator of the project, Immo Goltz <fwlogview /at/ nothrix.org>, started development in October 2000 using perl-gtk. The goal was enabling Linux firewall admins to delegate troubleshooting to "GUI only" users.
1.2.2. Who designed the website?
Webdesign and corresponding html code were done by Rene Waschau. Feel free to contact him at <rwa /at/ cio-solutions.de>.
1.2.3. Whats this nice bug?
This insects scientific name is Pyrrhocoris apterus. It's common names firebug (engl.) and Feuerwanze (dt.) are close to the goal of fwLOGview: debug firewalls. Therefore it became our mascot.
1.2.4. Who shot the photo?
Immo Goltz. You can visit Immo's website at: http://www.nothrix.org/

2.1. What are the fwLOGview features?
You can watch the logs in realtime (tail mode) or examine saved ones. The logentries are colored according to the corresponding firewall action. You can set filters on each column including or excluding lines. Have a look at the screenshots.
2.2. Is there a manual?
We have a wiki where all documentation is collected. Feel free to submit changes to improve the wiki and create a real good manual.
2.3. How can I contribute?
I would appreciate all your feedback, success stories, bug reports. And of course contributions like support for other firewalls, good documentation. This would help to make this tool much more powerful.
